Referrals

Arrival registration

Referrals arrive in Profdoc in electronic form from wards within the system or electronically from other systems through EDI. Referrals which arrive in paper form are registered upon arrival in the referrals module.

Assessment

When the referral is registered, an authorized person makes a structured assessment of the referral. Information about priority and requested treatment and analysis are added during the assessment stage.

Booking

After the assessment procedure, the patient is scheduled for a hospital visit. This can either be done as a preliminary booking or by directly booking resources and time slots.

Waiting lists

The preliminary bookings are added to a waiting list. The waiting list is used to schedule the waiting patients. Booking from the waiting list can be done both manually and automatically. The automatic feature will search for available resources in the system and allocate the waiting patients in the first available time slots.

Reply (discharge)

After the patient has visited the hospital, a reply to the referring institution can be made by adding text and information to the original referral. This can be done electronically through EDI or on paper.

Referrals in the medical records

All referrals are saved as document objects in the patient’s case record file and become part of the patient’s medical records. From the medical records, the referral can be viewed, answered electronically or printed on paper.
